Wikipedia is widely used as a reference to document history. While anyone can contribute, Wikipedia itself reports that 85% of its editors are men. This gender imbalance leads to biased documentation. That's why we're taking action!!!
During this Wikipedia Edit-a-thon, we'll come together to make a difference by improving the representation of women on Wikipedia.
WHAT?
Across Belgium, organizations are hosting 'hubs' where people can join forces to write and publish Wikipedia pages featuring notable women. The event kicks off with a short training session by Wikimedia on how to properly write and edit Wikipedia entries.
WHEN?
On April 24, International Girls in ICT Day, from 6:30 - 8:30 PM (CET), Clusity will host an online hub where we'll work together to create and edit pages. You're welcome to continue editing afterward, but our goal is to collectively write at least one or two pages per person in these two hours. A live tracker will count our progress!
HOW?
Sign up via our platform to join the online Wikithon hub. You'll receive a link in your inbox-no preparation needed! We'll provide a curated list of women to highlight, along with sources and background information in a handy PDF, so you can get started right away.
This event focuses on women in STEM, entrepreneurship, and innovation. It's a great opportunity to make a tangible impact, strengthen digital literacy, and foster team spirit-all while contributing to a more inclusive digital world. Let's come together and make history!
